Know us! Soul 2 Soul Sisters is a Black Womxn-led, racial justice organization that is based in womanist theology. Alice Walker coined the term Womanist in her 1983 book In Search of Our Mothers’ Garden: Womanist Prose (see below for Mother Walker’s definition). In keeping with Mama Walker's sentiments and teachings from Dr. Deloris S. Williams - one of the matriarchs of Womanist theology -we love ourselves and each other, regardless. We love Black Womxn, sexually and nonsesxually. We love and protect Black Trans Womxn. We love Black people. We love being Black. We honor the sacredness of Black Womxn’s full spectrum of SPIRITUAL EXPRESSION including Afro-Indigenous teachings and rituals, Abrahamic religions, Black art, dance hall, and so much more. We love music, mothering, dancing, nature, the Divine, creativity, rest, laughter, food, roundness, and living. We honor and center Black Womxn’s history and history-in-the-making without being restricted by white feminists’ designation of “women’s issues.” We intentionally work against colorism. WE KNOW that healing and liberative communities are only possible when Black Womxn are rested and discouraged from doing most of the emotional/spiritual/intellectual/physical labor for the “the cause.” We love music, mothering, dancing, nature, the Divine, creativity, rest, laughter, food, roundness, and living. We stay winning. DO YOU IDENTIFY AS A WOMANIST? Make a bold Womanist statement in this comfortable, stylish Womxn's v-neck tee. Made from 100% cotton, this shirt has a semi-fitted contoured silhouette, and it has the Soul 2 Soul Sisters logo on the upper back. Rock this in full Womanist glory!

WOMANIST (Alice Walker, 1983)
1. From womanish.
• From the Black folk expression of mothers to female children, “you acting womanish,” i.e., like a woman.
• Acting grown up. Being grown up. Interchangeable with another Black folk expression: “You trying to be grown."
• Usually referring to outrageous, audacious, courageous or willful behavior. Wanting to know more and in greater depth than is considered “good” for one. Interested in grown up doings.
• Responsible. In charge. Serious.
• Opposite of “girlish,” i.e. frivolous, irresponsible, not serious.
• A Black feminist or feminist of color.

2. Also: A woman who loves other women, sexually and/or nonsexually.
• Appreciates and prefers women’s culture, women’s emotional flexibility (values tears as natural counterbalance of laughter), and women’s strength.
• Sometimes loves individual men, sexually and/or nonsexually.
• Committed to survival and wholeness of entire people, male and female.
• Not a separatist, except periodically, for health.
• Traditionally a universalist, as in: "Mama, why are we brown, pink, and yellow, and our cousins are white, beige and Black?” Ans. “Well, you know the colored race is just like a flower garden, with every color flower represented."
• Traditionally capable, as in: "Mama, I’m walking to Canada and I’m taking you and a bunch of other slaves with me.” Reply: “It wouldn’t be the first time.”

3. Loves music. Loves dance. Loves the moon. Loves the Spirit. Loves love and food and roundness. Loves struggle. Loves the Folk. Loves herself. Regardless.

4. Womanist is to feminist as purple is to lavender.
